Catch Them Young
Early orthodontic consultation can make a meaningful difference.
Arch development is ideally assessed early in childhood, while the jaws and dental arches are still developing. In appropriately selected children, timely intervention can help guide arch development and create adequate space for the permanent teeth.

The goal is not simply to make room for teeth. A well-developed dental arch can, in suitable cases, help reduce the need for extractions, improve the relationship between the teeth and jaws, and contribute to greater stability of the orthodontic result.
Early treatment may also have functional benefits. By improving the form and dimensions of the dental arches, orthodontic treatment can influence the oral environment and, in selected patients, may have a positive effect on upper-airway dimensions and function. However, airway benefits are individual and should not be assumed in every child.

Prof. Gurkeerat Singh has been advocating early orthodontic assessment for many years, with the philosophy that identifying developing problems early can provide more treatment options and allow growth to become an important part of the treatment plan.

The objective is not to treat children unnecessarily—but to identify problems at the right time and intervene when it can make a meaningful difference. Because orthodontic success is not just about how the teeth look when treatment ends. The long-term result is what every patient deserves.
